Volvo Introduces Advanced Infotainment System Across Models
September 25 2024,
Volvo Cars has announced a major upgrade to its infotainment system, set to roll out globally to millions of drivers through an over-the-air update starting in 2025. The advanced system, already featured in the electric EX90 and EX30 models, will now be integrated into the refreshed 2025 XC90 SUV and made available to a wide range of Volvo vehicles.
The update represents one of the most comprehensive infotainment overhauls in the automotive industry, affecting approximately 2.5 million Volvo vehicles worldwide. Owners of Volvo cars with integrated Google services built since 2020 will receive the upgrade at no additional cost and without having to schedule a service appointment.
At the heart of the new system is an enhanced 11.2-inch central screen with 21% higher pixel density, providing a clearer and more vibrant display. The user interface has been redesigned to prioritize frequently used applications such as maps, media, and phone on the home screen, reducing the need for multiple taps to access essential functions.
A notable addition is the contextual bar, which adapts to driving situations and displays recent apps. For instance, it shows a camera icon at low speeds to assist with manoeuvring in tight spaces. The system also caters to hybrid drivers, offering easy access to drive modes including the 'Pure' setting for electric-only driving.
Erik Severinson, Chief Product and Strategy Officer at Volvo Cars, emphasized the significance of this update: "Our next-generation user experience will bring a substantial improvement to the customer experience and is an important step in our journey to offer our customers human-centric technology solutions."
The new infotainment system is designed to be versatile, adapting to various screen sizes and formats across the Volvo lineup. This ensures a consistent and modern user experience whether driving a new XC90, an EX90, or a three-year-old S60.
Volvo's strategy of enhancing vehicles through regular over-the-air updates aligns with their commitment to continually improve the customer experience. The company promises ongoing system adaptations to meet evolving customer needs through the introduction of new features and optimized functions.
The rollout will be gradual, with the company aiming to reach all eligible vehicles by the end of 2025. This update not only enhances the driving experience for current Volvo owners but also demonstrates the brand's dedication to keeping its vehicles technologically current long after the initial purchase.
