A Quick Overview of the 2024 Volvo Lineup

Volvo has a comprehensive lineup of sedans, SUVs and wagons that have something to offer for everyone, including those looking for fully or partially emissions-free driving. Here is a brief look at all of the models you will find in our showroom next year:

The Sedans

Despite a decline in popularity which has prompted many competitors to abandon them over the last few years, Volvo still has two sedans to offer in 2024.

Let’s start with the S60.

The 2024 Volvo S60 is a premium compact sedan that emphasizes comfort, safety, luxury and elegance in a segment where most competitors are boasting about acceleration numbers and lap times around circuits. Don’t be mistaken, the 2024 Volvo S60 offers an impressive level of performance, especially in the 455-horsepower Recharge plug-in hybrid variant, but Volvo knows that most drivers will find a comfortable ride and supportive seats more satisfying than knowing their car is the fastest around a track which they will most likely never visit. Like every 2024 Volvo, the S60 is exclusively powered by electrified powertrains and it benefits from the advanced Google Built-in infotainment system.

For those who want a statelier and more spacious sedan, Volvo has the S90.

Positioned as the flagship sedan in the lineup, the 2024 Volvo S90 is a midsize model that rivals with more expensive rivals in terms of luxury, elegance and passenger space. Indeed, the S90 benefits from all of the technologies available in Volvo vehicles in terms of comfort, convenience, and connectivity. The S90 also makes the ride more pleasant for rear seat passengers by providing an impressive amount of legroom, courtesy of a stretched wheelbase. Like the S60, the S90 is offered in both mild-hybrid or plug-in hybrid guises, giving buyers more options in terms of power and efficiency.

The wagons

Volvo have been famous around the world for decades thanks to their capacious loading compartment that doesn’t require drivers to compromise comfort or driving dynamics. Unsurprisingly since they are based on its sedans, Volvo has two wagons to offer in 2024.

The 2024 Volvo V60 is a more practical version of the S60, and one of the very few compact premium wagons left on the market. The main advantage of the V60 over its sedan companion is its vast loading space, which doesn’t come at the expense of manoeuverability. Indeed, the V60 is exactly the same length and width as the S60, making it no harder to park or drive in crowded rush hour traffic. For 2024, the V60 is offered in a choice of the rugged and mild-hybrid Cross Country, or the dynamic and sustainable Recharge plug-in hybrid.

The other wagon in the range is the 2024 Volvo V90, which benefits from all of the luxury and comfort of the 90 series models while being even more exclusive than the S90 due to being a wagon. Surprisingly, the V90 is actually shorter than the S90, increasing its practicality even further by making it much easier to drive than it may seem. For 2024, only the V90 Cross Country features in the lineup, blending Scandinavian elegance with rugged all-terrain charm.

The SUVs

Its is no secret that SUVs have been the favorite type of vehicle in North America for many years already, and automakers have to come out with very well designed and engineered products to stand out in this market. This is why Volvo currently has three gasoline-powered SUVs and two electric-only SUVs, with an additional two electric ones set to make their entrance later in 2024.

The 2024 Volvo XC40 is the smallest and most affordable model in the Volvo lineup in 2024. Its small size and high driving position make it incredibly easy to drive and park anywhere, while its boxy design permits a highly efficient cabin layout and a distinctive exterior appearance. As with all Volvo models, the XC40 benefits from a mild-hybrid drivetrain and the Google Built-in infotainment system, making it perfect for a wide range of buyers.

At the heart of the 2024 Volvo range is the XC60, a compact SUV that offers plenty of space for small families and active buyers alike. With its blend of performance, efficiency, comfort and technology, the XC60 combines the best of what Volvo has to offer in a highly versatile package that can adapt to almost anyone’s needs. The 2024 XC60 can also be ordered with the Recharge plug-in hybrid powertrain to increase its appeal even further.

Those who need space for up to seven passengers but still want the advantages that come with owning a Volvo can turn to the 2024 XC90. While this model was the first to introduce the brand’s new design language and engineering philosophy back in 2015, it is still as fresh as ever thanks to additions such as the Google Built-in infotainment system, the mild-hybrid powertrains, and the revised Recharge plug-in hybrid, which offers up to 53 kilometers of electric range. To stay in line with newer Volvo models, the XC90 has also been updated with more current materials such as sustainable wool blend upholstery and grey-tone wood trim, for example.

The electrics

As mentioned previously, Volvo has two electric SUVs to offer in 2024: the XC40 Recharge and the C40 Recharge.

The XC40 Recharge, as its name implies, is simply an electric version of the gasoline-powered XC40. This means that it benefits from the same level of practicality and technology, but doesn’t generate any tailpipe emissions. Thanks to either a RWD or AWD powertrain, the XC40 Recharge can offer up to 402 horsepower and 472 kilometers of electric range.

The C40 Recharge is essentially a coupe-like version of the XC40 Recharge which is distinguished by a lower roofline that provides a more dynamic and distinctive look, at the expense of some cargo capacity. This reduced practicality is compensated by an increase in range, however, since the more aerodynamic shape of the C40 recharge allows it to drive up to 478 kilometers on a full charge.

The upcoming models

In addition to all of the vehicles described above, Volvo is planning to introduce two additional electric SUVs to its lineup later in 2024.

The Volvo EX30 will be the first of the two to reach Canadian buyers, making it the first model to showcase the new direction of the brand in terms of design and philosophy. Indeed, the EX30 will adopt a new design language that blends traditional Volvo design cues with resolutely modern lines, both outside and in the Scandinavian-inspired minimalist cabin. The EX30 will be positioned below the XC40 Recharge in terms of size and price tag.

On the other hand, the Volvo EX90 will be positioned at the other end of the lineup, taking the place of the XC90 as the brand’s flagship product. The EX90 will adopt the same modern design language as the EX30, but it will benefit from much more advanced technologies that will make it the safest and most luxurious Volvo vehicle ever sold. Some of these technologies will include bi-directional charging, more advanced infotainment processors, and a Lidar that will make it hardware-ready for fully autonomous driving.
